‘ADS’ Concert a wonderful evening. What performances, what a community!
On Sunday January 11th, ‘ADS’ held its long awaited winter charity concert: ‘That song is from a musical?’. The audience was treated to a welcome by our Patron Sue Holderness and our Chairman David Jannetta, followed by A Cappella performances by three award winning groups: Signature Singers, The Royal Males and The Royal Harmonics. The concert was held at the beautiful Sue Cormack Hall at St Georges Ascot.
The Signature Singers
Signature A Cappella Singers is an award winning female a cappella chorus. They enjoy singing a variety of music, including Barbershop 4 part harmony, pop and show songs.
The Royal Males quartet, who met as members of the Royal Harmonics, was formed in 2008 and at their first Convention appearance won the National Seniors Gold medal, eventually being placed seventh in the BABS main Quartet Competition in 2009. They then represented the UK in the World Seniors Quartet competition in Tampa, Florida in 2010. The line-up was Bob Walker (Lead), Michael Webster (Tenor), James Dubois (Bass) and Richard Skilton (Baritone). When Richard's health deteriorated, he stepped back in favour of another Royal Harmonics member, Frank Marshall, who had already won a BABS Bronze medal as the Baritone in Wheel of Harmony in 2000. The quartet still perform regularly and love those close harmonies.
The Royal Harmonics
The Royal Harmonics - For them, it’s all about the harmonies, and all about entertainment. At the heart of what they do are the distinctive ringing chords of close harmony singing: lead, bass, baritone and tenor voices coming together to create a rich unified blend. Their musical roots are in the barbershop style. They are proud to have won the Silver Medal at the BABS national chorus competition in 2008, and have placed in the top 5 every year in the country. For 2025 (their silver anniversary year) they have been selected to represent the UK at the European Competition in Sweden.
The theme of the evening was songs from the era of the 1940s to the 1990s, including songs from musicals. The audience had to guess from which musicals some of the songs were.
The evening was greatly enjoyable with feedback ranging from how good the performances were to how well run the event was.
An event like this doesn’t happen without a small army of people. Our heartfelt thanks go to the three singing groups for donating their extraordinary talents, to our compere Christine Jannetta for keeping the evening running smoothly and entertainingly, and to our Patron Sue Holderness for her continued support.
We’re also grateful to Radfield Home Care Slough, Maidenhead, Windsor for sponsoring the refreshments. A special thank you goes to the wonderful staff of St George’s Ascot, our fantastic volunteers, and of course, to everyone who came along and supported us.
All proceeds of this event will go towards helping us to continue supporting local families affected by Dementia.
