THE β€˜ADS’ Youth support

As a Young Person witnessing someone you love living with Dementia, it can be a confusing and scary time. Also, being a Young Carer for a Person with Dementia can be quite challenging, especially when you don’t understand what is happening and what your responsibilities are.

The β€˜ADS’ Youth Support is designed to help and offer advice and support for those who are trying to come to terms with the changes that they may be seeing in their lives when a loved one is diagnosed with Dementia. Please contact us if you or someone you know needs our help.

UNDERSTANDING DEMENTIA

Dementia is an umbrella term for a number of different symptoms that affect the brain in different ways causing memory loss, difficulty thinking and communicating properly, confusion and disorientation etc.

This condition doesn’t only affect the Person diagnosed with Dementia, but also the entire family.

The β€˜ADS’ Youth Support is here to give you a better understanding of Dementia, allowing you to find the right support for you and your family if needed.

BEING A YOUNG CARER

Young Carers often have more responsibilities than other young people. On top of providing emotional support to the person they are caring for, they may also have to learn how to nurse them or look after their personal needs like bathing and dressing.

Being a Young Carer often means looking after a family member who is not well, or helping them by looking after the other members of the family while they can’t.

Even if many Young People cope well with caring, especially if you have support from other family members it is still important to look after yourself. You have the right to be looked after too and the β€˜ADS’ Youth Support is here to make sure that YOU are all right!

The β€˜ADS’ SHOW YOU CARE School Tour

We are delighted to be working with RBWM to deliver our β€˜Show You Care’ workshop for students in KS2 & KS3.

Delivered to cover a number of areas of the PSHE curriculum, the workshop is designed to help promote the idea of caring for those around us, explore the different ways in which we can care for others and talk about why certain people may need more specific care at times in their lives.

The workshop is completely FREE and available to all schools in the Royal Borough. Please click below for more information and register your interest in having us come to your school!
